Ms. Jane rescued at last

This account puts you on a New Orleans overpass for days with hundreds of other stranded evacuees, hot, thirsty, and hungry, with no idea when relief will come. Our companions are thousands of prisoners being moved by boat and bus, watched by deputies and helicopters. Our next stop is in crushing crowds at the Superdome waiting for a bus out of the city into the unknown.

Mary Gehman helps you meet the varied characters thrown together in this incredible week-long ordeal, in Surviving Hurricane Katrina. Travel with her through evacuation to Dallas, Texas and reunion with her family in Jackson, Mississippi. In "Six Months Since Hurricane Katrina" she takes us back to New Orleans to pick up the pieces and figure out what to do next. Mary provides a photo gallery illustrating the first week and what she found on her return.

Nine to ten months after the hurricane and flood reality sets in and life altering decisions have to be made. In short takes, Mary leads us through the highs and lows of survival and what it means to "move on". Her observations and insights are poignant yet hopeful. See Journal-2006.pdf.
